Anne Bassand

Anne Bassand, born in Geneva, began her harp studies with Catherine Eisenhoffer at the Conservatoire of her hometown. She further honed her skills under Marie-Claire Jamet at the Ecole Normale in Paris and later with Susann McDonald at Indiana University in the USA. She also benefited from the teachings of Pierre Jamet and pianist György Sebök. In 1992, she was awarded the prestigious International Harp Competition of the United States.

A passionate advocate for contemporary music, Anne is a member of the Contrechamps Ensemble in Geneva and has participated in numerous premieres. She has premiered solo harp pieces such as “Phalange” by Arthur Kampela (1995) and “Refrain” by William Blank (2012).

Biography

Born in Geneva, Anne Bassand began studying the harp with Catherine Eisenhoffer at the conservatory of her hometown. She later continued her studies with Marie-Claire Jamet at the “Ecole Normale” in Paris, and further improved her skills with Susann McDonald at Indiana University (USA). Additionally, she benefited from instruction by Pierre Jamet and the pianist Györgys Seböks. In 1992, she was awarded a prize at the International Harp Competition in the USA.

Captivated by contemporary music, she became a member of the “Ensemble Contrechamps” in Geneva and participated in numerous premieres. She has also composed solo works for the harp, including “Phalange” by Arthur Kampela (1995) and “Refrain” by William Blank (2012).

Anne has performed at various festivals, including the Festival der Zukunft in Ernen, the Autumn Festivals in Paris, the Festival van Vlaanderen in Belgium, the “Wien Modern” festival, the festivals of Gargilesse and Witten, the Neue Tag für Musik in Zurich, the Archipel Festival in Geneva, and the “Music and Friendship” festival in Biel, as well as the Salzburg Festival. She has recorded numerous CDs with different ensembles.

Anne teaches harp At the Lucerne University of Music  and Chamber Music at the Lausanne University of Music. Convinced of the importance of passing on knowledge, she has furthered her education in pedagogy and developed a thoughtful approach to harp instruction as a professor of didactics at the Geneva University of Music.

Description: The concert will be performed by Anne Bassand, a harpist born in Geneva. Anne began her harp studies with Catherine Eisenhoffer at the Conservatory in Geneva and further honed her skills in Paris under Marie-Claire Jamet, and later in the USA under Susann McDonald.
